Water Project – PFAS Removal:

The Borough Engineers have completed an application to Pa. DEP for a project to remove PFAS contamination from our water system. The wells in question have been taken offline until the new system is in place. Watch future newsletters for updates on the project.

Leaves:

After October 15, the Borough will begin picking up leaves.

It is an exhilarating time of the year when all the leaves turn color. But the downside is what follows…dead leaves. You can dispose of them in several ways…

  1. We recommend mulching them.
  2. You can compost leaves.
  3. Rake them to the curb and they must be DRY.
  4. Make sure leaves are on grass, NOT the street or the berm.
  5. Wet leaves must be dried before we can pick them up.
  6. You may bag them and place them in clear bags.
  7. No brush, rocks or grass may be in the leaves that are raked or bagged.

Post Office: Mail is SLOW…

Mail is delivered later each month. Sometimes we get mail two weeks later than it was mailed.

USE your Post Office Box Number for your ADDRESS:

Saegertown Volunteer Fire Dept.:

Please remember to support the all-volunteer Fire Department during the Annual Fund Drive that started on September 14th. Watch for letters in the mail or donate at: www.saegertownvfd.com.

There have been several fires in the past two years in the Borough, and the quick response and efficient work by the Department has limited damage to the structures. (There was a commercial fire on Main Street, a vehicle, house and garage fire near the north roundabout, and house fires on both ends of Grant Street.)

Saegertown is still lucky to have a reliable volunteer fire department. Please support them financially.

Saegertown Heritage Society:

Carl Maurana, a former teacher and principal at Saegertown, compiled his memories on paper.  These writings became the basis for the book, “Two Times and Out”. It was based on his fighting experience and time as a POW during World War II in the European Theater.  His daughter and daughter-in-law will present their reflections on their writing process and his life before, during, and after the war.  This lecture will be on October 28th.

The final program of the year, on November 11th, will feature Alison Duiker, the daughter of a missing woman from Littles’ Corners.  Her book, “A Daughter’s Journey”, details this case through her eyes as a five-year-old and her growth to adulthood never having the incident resolved.

All programs begin at 11:00 at the Heritage Museum, 320 Broad Street in Saegertown, and are free to the public.  Refreshments will be served following each speaker’s program.

The last tour of the season of the McGill House, 349 Main Street, Saegertown, will be October 7th at 11:00.  It is the oldest original structure in Crawford County, built in 1802 as a pioneer cabin.
