Total Eclipse: April 8th…there will be a temporary Blackout…

The eclipse happens when the moon comes between the sun and the earth. This eclipse will start around 2:00 pm in the afternoon and we will have a full blackout around 3:15 pm for about 3 minutes. The event will be over around 4:00 pm. Do not attempt to watch it without special glasses. Your eyes could be damaged by looking at the sun while it slowly goes into or out of the blackout. These glasses are available at several area stores. Educate kids about this.

There will only be ½ day of school on April 8th due to the blackout.

Plans for 2024: PFOS Removal

We have hired geologists and engineers to design a treatment plant to remove the PFOS contaminant.

The project will cost almost 9 million dollars! We have applied for a grant that will hopefully fund the project.

Watch future newsletters for more details. Currently the contaminated wells are out of service.

More Testing Required: PFOS

Last month we wrote about water testing prices. Recently, DEP has added more testing requirements that will cost the Borough about $12,000 more than we budgeted. Ouch!!!

Lead & Copper …Federal & State Mandates– this is the Year:

Thank You to everyone who responded to the Surveys:

For Those Who did NOT Respond…

This year (2024) the Borough is required to inventory ALL water service lines in the Borough. We need to document the water line material from the water main to the curb box (Borough’s responsibility) and the material from the curb box to the meter in your house (customer responsibility).

We will need to Dig Up Your Yard…

We mailed a survey in 2023 with all water bills. Borough employees stopped at all customers who did not complete the survey to physically check the line. If customers were not home, we left a second survey. If you do NOT return it, we will be forced to dig up your yard to check the line. If this is the case, you will be charged a $200 fee for the digging plus a certified letter fee ($25). The Borough will fill in the hole, but Not repair your yard.  Please respond to the survey!

-New setbacks in the B-1 Zoning District to promote business.

-Adding a section on Flea Markets to the yard sale ordinance.

-A “Protection Ordinance” to protect property owners against trespassing or squatting.

Jordan Park…Closed from Dusk to Dawn…

Due to significant damage to areas of Jordan Park, Council was forced to close the Park from Dusk to Dawn.

The yards have been torn up several times, two of the slides at the playground were broken, and some dugouts were painted with graffiti…Parking overnight is by permission only…       Violators will be fined.

Lock Your Car!!!

We have had several incidents of stolen cars. Do NOT leave keys in your vehicle, and we recommend locking them. The State Police have done a good job of catching the juveniles. Notify the Borough Office if you see juveniles out after 11:00 pm and try to identify them or where they live. We can issue fines to parents.

We will also increase surveillance in the evening and overnight.

ATV’s and 4-Wheelers:

It is illegal to drive these vehicles on Borough Streets. If someone drives respectfully and obeys signs while coming to town to get gas, we do not enforce it. Crazy driving will be fined, and the ordinance enforced.
