Looking Back:

Saegertown Ginger Ale Company:

In 1919 a spring was drilled at the present site of Saegertown Bottling on Grant St. In 1920 a plant was erected at that site. Saegertown Ginger Ale received two distinguished awards; it received an excellent rating during the Industrial Exhibition in New York City in 1889. And in 1900, at the World’s Fair in Paris, France it took the grand prize for the best soft drink of the day. The story has it that only one person had the formula for the Saegertown Ginger Ale, and when he died, the formula died with him. It has never been duplicated.

PFOS / PFOA: New Website launched by Penna. DEP

Check out the following website that DEP has launched concerning the Saegertown well contamination. It answers many questions and has lots of information:     Saegertown PFAS Site (pa.gov)

Interesting note on PFOS / PFOA:

The EPA and DEP limit the amount of PFOS/PFOA in drinking water to 70 parts per Trillion. PFOS/PFOA are chemicals used in products such as non-stick pans, Gortex water resistant items, stain free seats in vehicles and carpeting. It is also used in food wrappers. “CR.org” tested many fast-food wrappers and here are some of the test results:

(Remember that drinking water can be no more than 70 (ppt) parts per trillion.)

Single use paper plates: 149,000,000 ppt                              Fast Food Wrapper: 13,000,000 ppt

A trillion is a million, million.
