Plans for 2024: PFOS Removal
2024 will be a pivotal year for Saegertown. We are prepared to undertake an 8.7-million-dollar treatment facility for our water system. Pa DEP mandates action due to the well contamination. We have a plan in place, and we are applying for grants and low interest loans to fund the project. The amount of funding we receive will affect future property tax rates and water rates. Keep your fingers crossed!
Garbage on Holidays:
Garbage collection in 2024 will be on Monday morning except for the following Holidays:
On Memorial Day, pickup will be Tuesday May 28th, and on Labor Day, pickup will be Tuesday Sept. 3rd.
Borough Council for 2024: Thanks George…Welcome Dave
George Szalewicz completed his 8 year term on Borough Council, and we want to thank him for his service.

Marc Kirchner is the Mayor, and the 2024 Council Persons are:
●Kevin Byers ●Bob Gilbert ●Dave Parker ●Amanda Pipper ●Dr. Doug Smith ●Lenny Stites ●Ted Szalewicz
Water Testing:
DEP has mandated many water tests to ensure our drinking water is safe.
We will spend over $9,000 on testing in 2024!
Water Payments:
Remember water bills are always mailed by the 5th of every month. Payments are due by the 20th of the month.
There is a drop box at the Borough Building for payments, on the outside wall near the garage doors.
Late payments will be assessed a $15 late fee or 18% whichever is larger. Interest is also 18%.
Website: Notices…Newsletters…Alerts…Agendas…
We post information on issues like water leaks, leaf pickup, street closures, hydrant flushing etc. on our website. Before you call about low water pressure, or discolored water, check the web site first. When we are working on a problem, if possible, we post it on the top of the page under “alerts”. Many times, we do not know how large an area a water problem will affect, so please check for notifications.
We also post newsletters and meeting agendas on the site. www.saegertownpa.com
Landlords – Reminder:
Remember that self-inspections, or inspection fees due in 2024 must be received by the Borough no later than
January 30, 2024. Failure to do so will result in a failed inspection, additional fees and fines.
Please Remember: Snow Parking Regulations started Nov. 1st:
Violators will be fined. This is enforced when there is ANY snow or snow is expected.
Lead & Copper Federal & State Mandates– this is the Year:
This year (2024) the Borough is required to inventory ALL water service lines in the Borough. We need to document the water line material from the main to the curb box (Borough’s responsibility) and the material from the curb box to the meter in your house (customer responsibility). After completion of the inventory, both the Borough and the customer will probably be required to replace the lead or galvanized service lines with approved materials (like plastic or copper).
Borough Employees will be stopping at your House:
For those residents who did not answer our survey, we will be coming to your home or facility to personally check your pipes. (that sounds funny!) Our Borough employees will carry identification badges, for the brief inspection.
Office Hours and Vacation:
The Borough office is open from 8am until 4pm on Monday through Thursday, and
from 8am until 2pm on Friday, unless it is closed for Holidays or Vacations.
Higher than usual water bills:
When we see a residential water bill that is substantially higher than normal, we try to contact the customer, as a courtesy, in case they have left a hose running, or the toilet is running, or they have a leak somewhere.
Sewer Shut Off Notices:
Failure to pay your sewer bill will result in your water being shut off, even if you are current on your water bill.
Saegertown Volunteer Fire Dept.:
Please adopt a fire hydrant, and keep it clear from snow this winter!
