Plans for 2024: PFOS Removal
We have hired geologists and engineers to design a treatment plant to remove the PFOS contaminant.
The project will cost almost 9 million dollars! We have applied for a grant that will hopefully fund the project. Watch future newsletters for more details.
Water Testing: $9,000
In 2024 the Borough will spend approximately $9,000 to test and make sure our water is SAFE.
What do we test for?
PFOS – Forever chemicals that never go away (like Gortex)
VOC – Chemicals like Gasoline and Oil
IOC – Chemicals such as Arsenic, Fluoride, and Mercury
SOC – Chemicals like pesticides
Lead & Copper – Random test around the Borough for these chemicals
Nitrites & Nitrates – Chemicals like fertilizers
RADs – Radiation
Bacteria – Tested monthly in several different locations.
Chlorine levels – Checked daily at all wells, and weekly at select locations. Kills bacteria.
Website: Notices…Newsletters…Alerts…Agendas…
We post information on issues like water leaks, leaf pickup, street closures, hydrant flushing etc. on our website. Before you call about low water pressure, or discolored water, check the web site first. When we are working on a problem, if possible, we post it on the top of the page under “alerts”. Many times, we do not know how large an area a water problem will affect, so please check for notifications.
We also post newsletters and meeting agendas on the site. www.saegertownpa.com
Lead & Copper Federal & State Mandates– this is the Year:
This year (2024) the Borough is required to inventory ALL water service lines in the Borough. We need to document the water line material from the main to the curb box (Borough’s responsibility) and the material from the curb box to the meter in your house (customer responsibility).
Borough Employees will be stopping at your House:
For those residents who did not answer our water line surveys…
We will be stopping at your home or facility to personally check your water pipes.
Our Borough employees will carry identification badges, for the brief inspection.
We will Dig Up Your Yard…
For those water customers that did not answer our survey, after we stop at your home or business to check the line, if you are not home, we will leave a second survey notice. If you do NOT return it, we will be forced to dig up your yard to check the line. If this is the case, you may be charged a fee. More on this next month. Please respond to the survey!
Saegertown Volunteer Fire Dept.:
The department answered 272 Emergency Calls in 2023. That is more than 5 calls every week!
56 of the calls were in the Borough. That is pretty busy for an all-Volunteer Fire Department.
