August 2022 Newsletter

Crime Watch: Report what you see!

Vandalism…Stolen Items…Curfew…Loitering…Disorderly Conduct…

We have seen a recent uptick in bad behavior, particularly bikes being stolen, and cars being broken into.

If you see any suspicious behavior, contact the State Police (814-332-6911), and let the Borough Office know.

The State Police have done a great job in catching and arresting several juveniles, but we still need your help!

Electronic Recycling:

The Borough will take the following electronics during the month of AUGUST only:

Televisions, monitors, computers, laptops, VCR’s, radios, cell phones, shredders, and copiers,

All items must be from residents and businesses in Saegertown Borough ONLY

Cats:

Cats are regulated the same as Dogs and other animals. They are NOT permitted to RUN FREE.

If you know of a problem cat, please let the Borough know, and we will fine the owners.

We are also considering trapping any cats that run freely.

Use electricity Wisely during Heat spells:

-Set AC temperature as high as comfort will allow.

-Close drapes or blinds on windows facing direct sunlight.

-Check AC and furnace fan filters, and clean or replace.

-Avoid running heat producing appliances during the hottest periods of the day.

Food for Thought…Makes NO Sense!

Why is the Federal Government pushing electric cars, and at the same time asking us to conserve energy in hot weather and warning us of rolling brown outs this summer because there is not enough electricity being produced?

Vehicles:

All vehicles in the Borough must be registered, inspected, and in RUNNING CONDITION, or stored indoors.

This includes, boats, lawnmowers, garden tractors etc. Check the website for the ordinance.

Overgrown Brush along alleys:

It is the property owner’s responsibility to keep brush, limbs and weeds away from Borough streets and alleys.

All vegetation must be 10 feet from the center of the alley. The Borough will accept a well-trimmed 2-foot buffer.

Also, limbs across alleys must be at least 14 feet high.

Streets on Saeger-heights must be kept clear at least 2 feet from the berm of the street.

Your support will help the library maintain its current high standards while striving to provide you with even better resources and services. Please consider donating to your local library during “Crawford Gives”, August 29 & 30, 2022.

Fire Dept.:

Please donate to the All-Volunteer Saegertown Fire Department during “Crawford Gives”

Or… donate to the Annual Fund Drive, starting in September. Your support is appreciated!

Heritage Society:

The Saegertown Heritage Society is also participating in the August “Crawford Gives”.

The museum is open the 2nd and 4th Saturdays from 10:00-2:00.

Dirt Bikes & ATV’s:

A recently passed State Law allows for dirt bikes and ATV’s to be CONFISCATED

if operators are in violation. Owners can also be fined under Borough Ordinance.

Garbage: Items marked “Free”:

Items placed at the curb with your garbage that have a sign on them that says “Free” will not be picked-up.

Items such as Bicycles and Toys that may have been inadvertently placed near garbage

will not be picked-up unless marked as” Junk”.

Solicitors – Electricity and Natural Gas:

A permit is needed to solicit door-to-door. Request any solicitor show you their permit if they come to your residence.

Several people notified the Borough Office recently, and we were able to expel the solicitors from town.

This ordinance is to protect you from any scam!

Looking Back…Bridge at North Roundabout:

There formally was a bridge across French Creek at the end of McGill St. across from the Dairy Isle. In 1953 a new bridge was built about 200 yards upstream, near the end of Sackett Alley. The old one was dynamited when the new bridge was in service. (The old foundations can still be seen.) The 1953 bridge was then replaced in 2017, in the same location, when the roundabouts were constructed at each end of town.

More Bridge Replacements Coming Soon…

The contract to replace the McGuffintown Bridge (Rt. 19 and Black Rd.) will be let in August of 2023 (one year from now).

The bridge by the Fish Commission access area will be replaced in 2025. Plan now for any inconvenience this may cause.
