Total Eclipse: April 8th…there will be a temporary Blackout…

The eclipse happens when the moon comes between the sun and the earth. This eclipse will start around 2:00 pm in the afternoon and we will have a full blackout around 3:15 pm for about 3 minutes. The event will be over around 4:15 pm. Do not attempt to watch it without special glasses. Your eyes can be damaged by looking at it while it slowly goes into or out of the blackout. These glasses are available at several area stores.

Expect traffic delays and congestion, particularly after the event. Go to: 511PA.com. for real-time traffic info.

PFOS Update:

We are continuing to design a treatment plant to remove PFOS and we are exploring funding for the project.

Tick Season Once Again:

Due to the mild winter, we expect tick population to be up this spring. Wear light colored clothing with long sleeves and pants legs. Check for ticks when you return from wooded or brushy areas. Permethrin sprayed on clothes does a great job of keeping ticks off. Be careful, ticks host several diseases including Limes Disease.

Brush & Leaves:

We will once again be picking up brush and leaves. Leaves must be dry and placed in clear bags. Brush must be cut no longer than 5 feet and be placed in neat piles for easy pickup. Place items next to the street – NOT on it.

Jordan Park: Closed at Night

Due to increase vandalism Jordan Park will be closed from Dusk to Dawn. Violators will be fined.

Parking overnight is by permission only, and the playground is limited to children 12 years old and under.

Safety Tip: Tornadoes and Violent Weather:

Be prepared for turbulent weather this spring. Pay close attention to weather watches and warnings.

If the fire siren blows for 3 one-minute blasts with one minute in between blasts, it signals a tornado or an emergency such as a flood or hazardous spill. Go indoors, close doors and windows, take shelter and listen to a fire monitor, NOAA weather alert radio, or local news media for instructions.

Be prepared for Nighttime Tornados:

-Have NOAA weather radio or fire monitor close by with battery back-up.

-Keep your cell phones charged and close by.

-Keep a charged flashlight handy.

-Have shoes and glasses nearby to put on during an emergency.

-Know where to go that is a safe place during a tornado.

Warnings vs. Watches:

Watch: pay attention – conditions are right for a weather emergency (i.e. tornado, thunderstorm, flood)

–Warning: The emergency is imminent: Take shelter or action!

How to Safely Store Gasoline and Flammable Liquids:

                -Use only approved containers

-Add stabilizer if storing for more than 30 days.

-Fill containers carefully, make sure cans are on the ground when filling.

-Remember that static electricity can ignite vapors.

-Keep sources of ignition and sparks away from gasoline containers.

-Use the correctly colored fuel cans:

–Red for Gasoline             –Blue for Kerosene

–Yellow for Deisel             –Green for Oil
