September 2020 Newsletter

Borough Office Open:

-The Borough Office is OPEN once again. The Drop-Box will remain open for water payments.

-Also- NO ONE is permitted anywhere but in the Lobby at the Borough Building. Please do not ask to come in!

Census – Still Time to Respond:

  • The census is taken every ten (10) years and is mandated by the Federal Constitution.
  • It is important, and determines how many representatives we have in Congress, and is a determining factor when applying for Federal and State Grants. If you don’t respond, a census worker will come to your residence.
  • Make sure to answer the questions when you are asked. Failure to do so can result in fines from $100 to $500. They will not ask you for your social security number or a credit card number.
  • If you have not already done so…Please go to: or call 1(844)330-2020

Celebrate Saegertown – Buy Local:

It has been a rough year for everyone, but particularly difficult for local businesses. Saegertown businesses have almost anything you need, so please buy local and support those businesses.

No Excuse for not knowing the Law…Check out ordinances:

All local ordinances are posted online at:  Go to “Borough Government” then “Ordinances.

Leaves…………It’s Almost that Time of Year:

Here are some notes on leaf pick-up this year:

-Leaves can be raked to the edge of the street beginning October 19th

-We will also pick-up leaves on Saeger-Heights this year (do not rake them into the ditch)

-Rake leaves OUT of ditches on Saeger-Heights (They plug the pipes down-stream)

-Do NOT rake leaves onto the street or the berm.

-Be patient – We will pick them up as time permits.

-Remember that wet leaves need to be turned over and dried or bagged.

-Only a limited number of leaf bags will be available, but we prefer piles.

-If you rake piles next to an alley, call the office so we don’t miss picking them up.

Non-flushable items in sewer system:

Do NOT dispose of any of the following into the sewer system:

Diapers – feminine hygiene products – disposable toilet brushes – disinfecting wipes – disposable gloves- cotton swabs – dental floss – kitty litter

They all can clog filters and equipment at the Sewer Plant – and can damage or plug your own sewer pipes.

Animal Traps – Can holders and Yogurt cups:

-Make sure you properly dispose of any items that can trap an animal:

-Cut up plastic drink holders that hold soda cans

-Reverse angle Yogurt cups (such as Yoplait) can easily trap the head of a small animal such as skunks and cats.

(Borough employees have had to “release” a skunk from one of them!)

-Please rinse yogurt containers and cut the sides with scissors.

Speaking of Skunks – watch your garbage:

-Make sure your garbage is secure in a can with a lid, or do not put it out until Monday morning. It’s that time of year -when skunks (and other critters like raccoons) are rummaging around town looking for a free meal.

Recycling DONE for the Year:

We completed our annual recycling project in August. Hopefully we can continue this again next year. Thanks to the Jordan Family Foundation for sponsoring the project again this year.

Reminder that cats are regulated the same as dogs. They are NOT permitted to run free or make unwanted noises that disrupt the neighborhood.

Swimming Pools – Plan ahead:

Swimming Pools are regulated by both the State Building Code and by Borough Ordinance. Please check ahead, before you install any swimming Pool.
